How To Protect Your Roof From Strong Winds

Hawaii's strong high winds can cause damage to your roof. To help protect your home, here are some helpful tips to help you prepare.

1. Secure Shingles - Check with your roofer to make sure that your shingles are secured properly. There should be at least six staples or nails holding each shingle down. A waterproof underlayment in case the wind blows your shingles off also offers a good layer of protection.

2. Inspect Your Roof Regularly - It's easy to take your roof for granted but regular inspections before the storm season starts is a good way to detect and wind damage and make your home storm and hurricane prepared!

3. Remove Trees and Secure Outdoor Furniture - According to FEMA, you should ensure that all trees on your property are far away enough to prevent them from damaging your home should strong winds blow them down. The distance between your home and any tree close by should always be greater than the height the
tree will reach when fully grown. If you have enough warning time, be sure to secure other outdoor furniture, trash cans, grills and bring smaller objects indoors.

4. Be Proactive - Don't wait until hurricane season to protect your room. Preventing any wind damage is the first step to keeping your home safe. Contact RC Roofing Contractors for a no obligation roof inspection and we can help inspect your roof for any possible damage before the strong winds hit.
